Tour of the Bible

Tour of the Bible

Tour of the Bible“You can make the Bible say anything you want it to,” at least I keep hearing that, and sure, you can pick out quotes that seem to support just about anything you want to say; but it’s not true. You can’t make the Bible say anything you want it to, not if you have a sense of what the whole book is about. That’s what the Six Week Tour of the Bible gives you – an overall sense of what the whole book is about. I know that some whose faith is founded in fear use the book to argue for a harsh, punitive, judgmental approach to faith. But in the hands of interpreters who think the First Letter of John is right when it says, “Perfect love casts out all fear,” it yields a very different message, one worth listening to in a world that, let’s face it, has kind of lost its way. The class isn’t about convincing you that the Bible is right, since I don’t think it is objectively, exclusively, right. I just want to dust it off and let some more people know what the thing says, (of course, from my point of view).
